A great jacket, it hasn't been used much as it's far too warm for summer but I purchased it for winter, as it's a Thermo Guard jacket which makes it very very warm! Water proof in actual rain hasn't been tested either. I did however stand in a cold shower to check how waterproof it is. I spent 5 minutes in it and didn't get wet at all.
Pockets are of a decent size, the jacket has 3 pockets on the outside, 2 at a good level to warm those cold hands, these 2 both have weather flaps to keep the elements out. They could be slightly deeper on the XL version I have. The top chest pocket has a wet weather zip, but I don't feel it'd be big enough for a map but perfect for a mobile phone or GPS. The inside pocket is big enough for a map; I however do not like opening my jacket in the rain to pull out a map.
overall the jacket is a good day jacket for getting out and about, pitt ventelation would be good for a longer comfort wearing.

I've been meaning to say about this jacket, since the snow started falling it's been fantastic. It's currently my dog walking jacket and I've been putting it through it's paces here in Scotland, on top of a few hills for an hour to two hours at any time. Dry, warm, just brilliant!
the chest pocket has kept a camera dry (although it's an olympus waterproof camera) in some very blizzardy conditions.
the jacket drys quickly and is perfect for an outting in no time. a great waterproof and very warm jacket.

Just went back and re-read my original post, I still agree with what I said "pitt ventelation would be good!" can get a bit too hot if you're walking at a pace.
