Edinburgh & Lothian Buses, increase in bus tickets. single adult now £1.30

Lothian buses are increasing their bus ticket prices again, last time they did this start of 2009 they said it was due to fuel costs then a few months later the cost of fuel fell and they kept the price at £1.20 not dropping as fuel costs fell.

Now that fuel is on the way back up they're putting the price up another 10p for an adult single ticket.

    new price structure:
    Adult Single: £1.30
    Adult Day Ticket: £3.20
Adult Book of 20 tickets: £26 (no advantage in buying in bulk)

    Adult Ridacards:
    1 week: £16
    4 weeks: £48
    1 year: £576
monthly direct debit: £45 per month

If I didn't have carpal tunnel and a torn ankle tendon I'd be cycling everywhere. I have worked out for 2 or more people often going to the same place it's cheaper to own a car in Edinburgh than use public transport and that was at the £1.20 ticket price!

when tickets went up in 2009 and fuel prices fell, I wrote to lothian buses: "you listed the increase cost of fuel for the latest price rise from £1.10 to £1.20, now the cost of fuel has fallen back down when will we see ticket prices drop?" Lothian Buses response "They Won't!" that was it, nothing else, just a rude They Won't! I was shocked.

Looks like bus ticket prices in Edinburgh are going up again and they're cutting a few routes at the same time. If you now have to get a day pass, instead of 2 single tickets, to get to work due to these route changes, and you already own a car it's now cheaper to drive, over a year for most Edinburgh journeys fuel is roughly half the price based on a 2007 Ford Focus than the cost of catching a bus with a day pass for the same start and destination (may go different route).

see the route changes here: Changes to your buses from Sunday 4 March 2012

The price increases haven't been announced but according to: First follows Lothian Buses as rise in fares deemed to be The price of a single adult ticket is expected to rise by 10p to £1.40 and a day ticket by 20p to £3.40.
